After 25 years in the industry, in 2012 Centrum was confronted with the scenario of ‘change course now or sink’ . Along with dozens and dozens of small printers Centrum were facing the prospect of being bought out, or continuing to struggle in an ever diminishing print market. The advance of digital and online communication was taking its toll. Highly skilled tradespeople were losing their jobs and the Australian skill base diminishing.
Rather than just fade away, Percy and his loyal team decided to change tact and help build a stronger manufacturing industry. By making bold decisions and moving from their 900m2 factory in Mascot to a new 3800m2 premise at Chipping Norton, Centrum have created new opportunities for employment as well as successfully entering the highly competitive packaging market. Management’s vision of a strong Australian manufacturing industry providing opportunities for young Australians, as well as becoming a leader in large format printing, were the driving forces behind this transformation.
With the latest technology available in the world, Centrum have carved out a niche market and created a unique business model whereby they partner with, rather than compete with their competitors. This highly successful approach has seen them grow from strength to strength. By partnering with organisations such as TAFE, and respecting client relationships, Centrum are building an ethical business based on strong moral principles, which is contributing positively to the Australian economy.
